Dear Friends,
As per our discussion yesterday, recapitulating for the benefit of all -
1) Audiology means.....Audire (L) means hear and logia (Gk) means the subject of study or discourse. So basically it means the science of study of hearing.
2) Audiometry means the measurement of or evaluation of hearing.
3) Broadly speaking ,Audiometry is divided into 2 types - Subjective and Objective.
Subjective means where the (subjective) response of the patient is involved.
Objective types obviate these subjective responses of the patient ...and hence are impervious to
the personal wishes of the patient (read a ...relative immunity against malingering).
Examples of Subjective Audiometry
1) Pure Tone Audiometry
Examples of Objective Audiometry
1) Impedance Audiometry
Clinically the most relevant and informative type of Audiometry is Pure Tone Audiometry. The report is called as Pure Tone Audiogram.
It is Defined as "A Graphical Representation of the Hearing Acuity of the Patient qualitatively as well as quantitatively."
